UC Aerospace Level 1

About the Programme

The UC Aerospace Level 1 programme is the clubs flagship programme and provides a great introduction to both high-powered rocketry and the UC Aerospace club.

Since the program began in 2019, over 350 members have participated, and over 60 rockets have launched. Club members work in small teams to build a 1.4 metre tall rocket kit, and gain knowledge in basic rocket aerodynamics, fabrication, and launch procedures. Some teams have chosen to go above and beyond and built their own flight computers and camera rigs for their rockets.

The programme starts with teams crafting a small report, helping the new members gain a basic knowledge of rocketry. Next is the build workshops, mentors who have previously completed their level 1 will help the teams build their very own rocket over a roughly 12 week period. At the end of this, each team will have the opportunity to launch their rocket at our annual level 1 launch day. This is an awesome day for new members to experience the hobby and see the 12 weeks of work launch into the sky!

We are also in the beginning of talks with the New Zealand Rocketry Association (NZRA) team about a possible reciprocal agreement for certification of Level 1 and higher.

2023

With the club steadily growing, we set a new club record with 23 student built rockets launched successfully in one stunning winters day. We had over 100 students participate in the programme this year and our biggest and most successful launch day yet!

2022

16 student-built rockets successfully launching with over 80 students taking part.
